Biography
Dr. Herish Omer Abdullah is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the College of Science, Salahaddin University-Erbil. He completed his Ph.D. in Graph Theory at the same institution in 2007, with a thesis titled "Hosoya Polynomials of Steiner Distance of Some Graphs." He holds an M.Sc. in Applied Algebra (Group Representation Theory) from the University of Technology-Baghdad, earned in 1998, and a B.Sc. in Mathematics from Salahaddin University-Erbil, awarded in 1991.
Dr. Herish has held several academic leadership roles throughout his career. From 2015 to 2023, he served as the Dean of the College of Science at Salahaddin University-Erbil, and he was the General Director of the university’s Research Center between 2018 and 2019. He has also been a key figure in the organization of numerous conferences and workshops, including serving as the Chair of the Organizing Committee for the Third International Conference of Mathematics and its Applications (TICMA2022) and the Second International Conference of Mathematics in Erbil (SICME2019).
He is a member of the American Mathematical Society (AMS) since 2011. His research focuses on graph theory, with particular interests in Hosoya polynomials, distance indices, and the structural properties of various graph classes. He has published extensively in reputable journals, including the Palestine Journal of Mathematics, Zanco Journal of Pure & Applied Sciences, and Journal of Discrete Mathematical Sciences and Cryptography. His recent work includes studies on the average distance and restricted detour distance of graphs, as well as contributions to topological indices related to drug molecular structures.
Throughout his teaching career, Dr. Herish has instructed a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, such as Finite Mathematics, Graph Theory, Abstract Algebra, and Number Theory & Cryptography. He remains committed to advancing the field of mathematics through both teaching and research, contributing significantly to the academic community at Salahaddin University-Erbil and beyond.
